Resume writing tips and types of resume


 
A good job hunter knows that a good resume is the key to an interview invite and ultimately, to employment. Aside from a summary of your abilities, work experience and education, a resume should reveal your unique selling points to entice a potential employer to BUY you.

The secret to an irresistible resume is to address the specific need of a specific job. A tailored resume has infinitely more impact than a one-size-fits-all. To write such a resume, first organize information under specific headings such as education, work experience, achievements, skills and activities. When everything is on paper, decide on the proper format to play up your outstanding qualities that fit the job’s requirements.

Here are several types of resume for your reference.
  1. Chronological resume
    • Recommended for candidates with solid working experience and a progressive job history in a specific field or history, and who would want to continue along this similar career path.
    • Most employers prefer this style as it is based on facts, and easily digestible.
    • Very conventional, emphasizing on itemized employment history.
    • Important to present career milestones in reverse chronological order, starting with current position and moving backwards. Each position contains a description of relevant responsibilities and accomplishments.

  2. Functional Resume
    • Suitable for fresh graduates and job hoppers hoping for a career change.
    • Helps to cover seemingly disconnected experiences by displaying transferable skills and related achievements.
    • Organize work history into sections that highlight skills and accomplishments deemed most appropriate for the position applied for. Always include the company name in bulleted description of your accomplishments. Do not miss out at least a brief chronological listing of your work experience.

  3. Combination Resume
    • This format tries to merge the best features of the chronological and functional type resumes by incorporating both a chronological work history and a skills and achievements section. Top focus is on skills and accomplishments, followed by work experience.
    • Though some employers will find this format long, repetitious and confusing, this type of resume can be good to someone with good editing skills.

  4. Electronic Resume
    • Adopted by many people to send resumes to electronic resume banks and make on-line job applications through JobStreet.com.
    • The resume is sent by email or can be viewed on the Internet. Specially formatted for scanning and searching by optical scanning systems.
    • Fast becoming an increasingly popular and acceptable form of job application as it is fast, effective and convenient.
    • Comes in different file formats but most common are plain text, rich text and hypertext.
RESUME WRITING TIPS

  1. Know Your Objective
    • What job do you want? What are the skills and requirements necessary for this job?
    • Keep them in your mind as you write your resume so that the interviewer reading it will see that you are the person they are looking for.

  2. Compile all your information
    • List down your personal particulars, education history, extra-curricular activities including positions held, employment history, seminars attended, achievements, etc.
    • Ensure the dates are correct. Leave out hobbies/interests, parent’s occupation etc.
    • Sort information under specific headings – Education, Work Experience, Achievements, Skills, Activities.

  3. Start with your Name and Contact details
    • Write your full name, postal address, house and mobile numbers, email address.
    • Leave out your marital status, sex, race, parent’s name and occupation, birth details, etc.

  4. Write your Employment details
    • Starting with your most recent work, list down all the jobs you have had, company names, dates of employment, position titles.
    • Using bullet points, write the job description, nature of work and responsibilities held for each position
    • Use key words: responsible for, coordinating, prepared, managed, monitored, presented, accomplished, achieved, analyzed, delegated, etc .
    • Highlight your achievements/job responsibilities.

  5. List Education details
    • Lead with your highest education level to the lowest, include grades like CGPA.
    • State courses or papers studied, e.g. Psychology, Contract Law, Multimedia.
    • List activities like societies/clubs, position held and accomplishments if they are relevant to the job you are applying to. Otherwise, leave them out.

  6. Include your Skills
    • List down your computer skills, language skills (and different dialects) including proficiency in reading and writing, and soft skills (public speaking, presentation, etc).

  7. Reference
    • Not totally essential but if you need to mention references, choose people who know you personally and can give a good impression of you to the potential employer.
    • Remember to give your reference’s contact details.
    • Make sure you inform your referees that they may receive calls from your interviewers so that they can prepare. Send them copies of your resume so that they know who you are and what you did.

  8. Miscellaneous
    • Be short and concise
      • Resumes are usually read in only 30 seconds or less, so you have to be brief and go straight to the point.
      • Resumes should be a maximum of two pages long. Use Size 12 fonts (Times New Roman or Garamond font) for easy read. Use three pages only if you have extensive professional experience.
      • Use italic or bold fonts only to indicate important information or section breaks.
      • Use a good printer, no stray marks, splotches, uneven or blurred letters.
      • Use high quality A4 paper, white only. Do not use flashy colours like pink or red.


    • Be honest
      • Do not inflate your resume. Make sure you can back up what you claim. Do not cheat/lie.


    • Check for spelling and grammar mistakes
      • Make sure your resume is free from spelling or grammar mistakes.
      • Ask someone reliable to check it for you.
      • Do not depend on your word processor’s Spell Check function.
      • Most importantly, proof read until your resume is perfect.


    • Use Power Verbs
      • Action words add “oomph” to your writing and enables you to describe clearly.


13 Tips to Writing the Right Resume


Coming up with a resume that makes jaded HR people sit up and take notice isn't as difficult as it sounds. The trick is to make sure it's worthwhile reading anytime.
How to come up with a resume that works--now there's a dilemma shared by fresh graduates and working stiffs alike. What exactly do you put in and leave out to convince the HR manager that you will be a wise addition to their company ranks? It's a tough set of decisions to make, akin to those you make when going on a blind date: You worry yourself sick over what to wear, what perfume to use, what to say to make the other person like you.

Writing resumes is, after all, fundamentally a marketing act. It's a way to advertise yourself and stand out in the marketplace crowd of similarly competent, qualified workers.

Forget about being modest. As career specialist J. Michael Farr, writing in the online magazine VidBook.com, says, "Your resume is no place to be humble."

How then do you design yours so that it comes off not as a pompous recitation of accomplishments the way a politician may do his, but as a compelling summary of your most attractive qualities?

Remember what your resume is not for: It's not meant to get you a job. Not yet, anyway. Its mission is to get you a job interview--which would hopefully lead to a job offer. But think of that as a long-term goal. First, your resume should be able to get your foot in the door by attracting the reader's attention enough to wangle an invitation for that first big look-see.

HR practitioners thumb through countless resumes in the course of their work. How do you make yours so fetching it warrants a face-to-face encounter?

Here's a 13–step guide to constructing a professional resume that gets your foot in that all-important door.
  • Gather your materials. Begin by putting everything down on paper--contact details, work history and accomplishments, academic background, seminars attended, honors received, skills and proficiencies, personal details, etc. Don't worry about organizing them at this point; just make sure you don't leave out anything major, substantial, or relevant.

    Pay particular attention to dates and places--say, periods of employment--as mistakes in these areas may leave an impression of sloppiness, or worse, fudging on your part.
  • Start with your name and contact details. Your contact information should come right at the top of the resume after your name for easy and convenient reference by the reader. Include all possible contact details: postal address, landline and mobile phone numbers, fax numbers, and e-mail address. The last one is particularly important, because in these tech-savvy times, an email address shows that you are, at the very least, computer literate.
  • State a job objective. A well-developed job objective statement "can be a useful way of demonstrating yourself to be a focused individual," says VirtualResume.com, an online job placement company. If you're responding to an advertisement, your job objective can be as simple as the position title (e.g., "Finance Manager").

    But if you're aiming to keep your options open for other positions within a broad range of expertise, you can write a more general description of the work and corporate environment you want to focus on (e.g., "To apply my extensive experience in finance and administration to senior management positions in a highly motivated, forward-looking multicultural company").

    Beware of generic objectives such as "employment in a position commensurate to my qualifications" or "to secure a regular position."
  • Write a brief summary of qualifications. Cynthia Buiza, an HR and corporate communications officer at a Thailand-based NGO, says she appreciates resumes that provide upfront a concise summary of the applicant's qualifications.

    "I get the impression that the applicant knows his strengths very well, but more importantly, that he can help me evaluate his credentials in a paragraph or so." Such small gestures of consideration, she says, go a long way toward distinguishing a thoughtful resume from the run-of-the-mill.
    Your summary of qualifications should include:
    • number of years of professional experience
    • areas of expertise and career highlights (e.g., "at 26, youngest officer promoted to manager in bank history")
    • unique skills and competencies (e.g., "part-time financials instructor at the SAP Academy")
    • other information underlining your particular qualifications for the job
    The summary's task is to make your credentials a cut above the rest. But make it brief; two or three sentences should do.
  • Lead with your professional experience. Unless you are a new graduate, you should begin the body of your resume with an outline of your employment history, starting with your most recent work. List down all the jobs you've had, the company names, dates of employment, titles and responsibilities.

    "Don't censor this list; include everything," advises VidBook.com. A fairly straightforward rundown of your professional experience emphasizes a strong and consistent work history.

    A choppy one, on the other hand, where you jump from one company to another within fairly short periods, or have unaccounted pockets of unemployment, will inevitably lead to questions about your work ethic, your sense of stability, company loyalty, etc. That's why it's best not to leave a gap. Account for everything, even for time spent outside of professional work (e.g., "1990-1993—Full-time parent," or "1998-1999--Study and travel").
  • Highlight concrete achievements. When you describe your professional experience, don't just enumerate your job responsibilities. A comprehensive job description will only pad up your resume; save it for the interview. Instead, emphasize any major accomplishments you had chalked up in the job. Use numbers, figures, percentages if possible.

    At the September 1994 Professional Association of Resume Writers' Annual Convention in St. Louis, Missouri, USA (yes, there is such a thing), invited HR panelists were one in saying they searched for certain key words and phrases that provided a barometer of a potential candidate's qualifications. These words were active verbs that described the applicant as a results-oriented, dynamic individual, such as "accomplish, achieve, analyze, delegate, establish."

    In other words, describe your job in the active, not the passive, voice. Why say, for instance, "Directly responsible for coordinating community programs" when you can say "Managed community programs with P12-million annual budget, 4 employees, and 3 office branches; streamlined program operations, increasing revenues by 20% over a period of 3 months."
  • Emphasize your educational preparedness. If you are a new graduate with no professional experience, lead with your academic background, honors, and extra-curricular activities. Don't believe the fillip that grades don't matter in the real world; in the beginning at least, they do.

    As Fred Damian, HR partner of Ernst & Young-Manila, explains, potential employers understandably give hiring priority to young people who have more or less proven themselves in academic tasks and school-related activities. Positions of responsibility in extra-curricular and community organizations are also reliable indicators of leadership and social interaction skills, he says. Thus, make sure they're all in your resume.

    Leave off the negative points. If you made it to the dean's list in the first semester of your first year and never made it again, it might be prudent not to include the details anymore. That is, unless you're prepared to admit during the interview that after a glowing start, you sputtered to a lame finish. Your educational background should always be positive and purposeful, to encourage the thinking that you are well prepared for the rigors of the corporate world.

    Include special skills and competencies. This is important, particularly in a highly competitive knowledge-based industry such as IT. In your resume, include the titles, dates, venues, and agenda of all your training activities and further education, whether formal or informal. Begin with the most relevant seminars. Be specific: don't just say "assorted computer training," when you can say "training in Visual Basic, SAP," etc. If you are fluent in more than one language, mention that fact, too.
  • Either include references--or don't mention them. There are two schools of thought on this: One says it's necessary to include references. The other says this only lengthens the resume, and should therefore be available in another sheet of paper only upon request.

    Damian, however, advises against using the standard "References available upon request" line. "It's either you mention references, or none at all," he says. "What's the point of putting in a header for 'References' only to say 'Available upon request?'" But if you do include references, include as well their complete contact details—especially telephone numbers and email addresses, and also the best time to get in touch with them.
  • Use personal details sparingly. In the US where job-discrimination laws are wide ranging and explicit, "a potential employer has no legal right to request information about age, sex, race, religion, marital status, health, physical appearance, or personal habits," explains The Writing Center at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute.

    Such statutes have yet to find root locally, but it is best to leave out as much extraneous (read: personal) information as possible from your resume, to free up limited space. These include names and occupations of parents, hobbies and interests, birthplace, etc. Reserve them for the interview proper.
  • Be concise. Resumes are often read in 30 seconds or less so be brief, straightforward and to the point. Use bullet points to underscore important information. Employ paragraph breaks, lines, and numbers. A standard resume should be no more than two pages—three at most if you have extensive professional experience. Beyond that, your resume needs serious editing.
  • Proofread! There should be no typographical or spelling errors in your resume. When using numbers, re-check decimal places or the number of zeros. Punctuation and date formats should be consistent. For example, if you write "2 February 2000" in one section, don't write "March 5, 2000" in another.
  • Make it an easy read. Your resume should also be visually appealing; a carelessly printed, sloppily designed resume will reflect disastrously on you. Thus, make it easy on the eye with lots of white spaces, a font no smaller than 10 in size, and at most two conservative typestyles (such as Times New Roman or Garamond). Underlined and bold text should be used sparingly--only to highlight significant information or to indicate section breaks.

    Another crucial point: Use a laser printer. With cheap laser printing services available even in neighborhood computer shops nowadays, there is no excuse for jet ink-printed resumes, which easily smudge or run off. Make sure that the printing is even, with no stray marks, splotches or blurred letters.

    Finally, use only high-quality bond paper--either white or off-white. Don't experiment with flashy colors such as blue or green, or with fancy graphics and visuals; stick to the simple and straightforward.
One more suggestion: Once written up, show your resume to friends or colleagues. Listen to their comments and suggestions, especially on how easy or difficult it is to find important information at a glance. Then consider all that when rewriting the final draft of your masterpiece.

Persepsi sebeginilah yang menjadi kepercayaan kekal dalam diri
dan akan mewujudkan halangan pada diri untuk maju ke

How to get promoted: Nine obvious and often not practised tips

It would be safe to say that you would have probably entertained the question of how to get promoted even before you graduated or left school. In my chats with juniors from my industry, I am often asked this question which I gladly answer. However, I sense they simply want short cuts to the next level.

These experiences pushed me to pen these nine obvious but often not practised tips on how to get promoted. Start internalizing these tips and make them part of your career plan. Before you know it, you would have moved up to the next level.

One main reason for people to ignore these obvious practices on how to get promoted is because they seem very long term. But they are not at all. All you need to do is to consistently DO them. I have broken them down to three main sections: Plan, Attitude and Action.

PLAN
  1. Where Are You and Why Are You There?
    How to get promoted? First you will need to have a reference point. Ask yourself, where are you now? And why are you there? Is there any key strength that has brought you where you are now that you can continue to leverage for the next promotion? Are there any weaknesses that you really need to correct before the next promotion is possible? These questions, while simple are strategic. It allows you to check your strengths and weaknesses. It forces you to access what has worked and what will work to get you promoted.
  2. Where Do You Want To Be and How Do You Get There?
    You obviously need to have an objective and a plan. Just saying that you want to get promoted is not enough. You need to be clear on your next position. Is it a promotion to a different department or a different branch? Write this down.

    Now that you have written this down, how do you plan to get that promotion? Develop a plan for to achieve that objective. If you are lucky, you can even work this out with your immediate boss. Most bosses do not promise that promotion at such discussions but at the very least you get an idea of what are the expectations.
ATTITUDE
  1. Put Pride, Passion and Belief In Everything You Do
    People who get promoted are those that have a sense of pride in their work. And they take pride in their work. They are driven by genuine enthusiasm and desire to do their best no matter how small the job. They believe in themselves and they believe in the bigger goals of their unit or department and company. How to get promoted? Ask yourself; do you conduct yourself with pride, passion and belief?
  2. Back it Up with Skills/Knowledge, Direction and Action
    Having pride, passion and belief is only part of how to get promoted. It must be backed up skills and knowledge. That means having the necessary skills and knowledge to do a superb job. Having a direction is important to guide that energy generated by your passion. Otherwise, effort is wasted. Without action which is the actual completion of the task, all else is academic. You will be judged by what you do.
  3. See Challenges As Opportunities
    Another obvious tip on how to get promoted is to see challenges as opportunities. Very often I see young executives being thrown challenging assignments, which they choose to see as an additional chore. If you want to be promoted, look at challenges as opportunities to shine. Do not complain about hard work, how hard you worked or if your assignment is tougher than your colleagues’. Trust me, no one wants to know how hard you work. In everyone’s mind, their own work is the hardest.
ACTION
  1. What Is Your Part?
    Know your part and play your part. What is your role? Are you an implementer? Or are you a leader? Know exactly what you need to do in order for your unit to achieve its goals. Knowing your part means being a team player. No one can succeed without help from others. We all need the support of colleagues. When the team succeeds, you succeed too.
  2. Do Your Best NOW
    I consider this as one of the most important tip on how to get promoted. Do your best NOW. Today. This week’s tasks and projects. Do not bask in the glory of your previous work. That is gone. In all likelihood, no one else cares about it especially your bosses. Do not think too much about future projects that are not implemented yet. That is in the future. It is not here yet. Focus on DOING your best NOW. It determines how you are being judged. When you reflect too much on the past and think too much about the future, you forget to focus on the NOW.
  3. Do More Than Necessary
    If you want to know how to get promoted, do more than the necessary. That means volunteering for work and taking the initiative to make a job better. It also means not sitting around waiting for work to come to you. Bosses like people who can help them solve problems. Even if the problem is not yours, but if you feel you can be of help and have the expertise to solve it, then volunteer to help. You become the team’s competitive advantage when you do that. And bosses like people who give their unit an advantage over the others. Helping your team stay ahead is then helping you stay ahead too.
  4. Do Work from The Next Level Up
    If you continue doing work for your current position then you truly deserve your current position. People who know how to get promoted know that if you want the position next level up, you start doing some of those work from that level now. If you are a senior executive now, do some work that is only expected of an assistant manager (assuming that is the next level up). This allows you to demonstrate that you are capable of that position already.
Obviously, there are zillions of tips out there on how to get promoted. These are some of those that I deem to be obvious and not practiced enough by career success seeking newbies. Putting these into practice would greatly increase your chances of a promotion.

Untuk meningkatkan jualan, anda perlukan strategi pemasaran yang bagus. Anda perlu belajar bagaimana untuk menarik perhatian orang ramai atau pelanggan kepada anda atau perniagaan anda serta membuat mereka gembira untuk membeli daripada anda.

Persoalannya, adakah anda cukup stok atau kakitangan untuk uruskan pelanggan yang ramai mencari anda nanti?
Ini adalah senarai 50 idea pemasaran luar biasa, anda tidak akan tahu keberkesannya sehingga anda mencuba:-
50) Kongsikan apa yang anda tahu kepada orang lain: Apa yang anda ketahui tentang perniagaan anda kadang-kadang merupakan maklumat yang sangat bernilai kepada orang lain. Tetapi bukanlah maklumat rahsia perniagaan anda, tetapi maklumat umum atau informasi yang mungkin berguna kepada orang lain. Berikannya secara percuma. Tuliskan artikel di blog ,laman web atau laman sosial anda seperti FACEBOOK, kongsikan kepada orang lain tentang apa yang anda tahu tentang bidang yang anda lakukan.
Contohnya, jika anda di dalam bidang takaful atau insuran. Kongsikan kepada orang lain tentang asas perancangan kewangan yang betul, kesilapan ramai pelanggan anda sebelum ini dan bagaimana untuk merancang plan pencen mereka atau mungkin pelan kewangan pendidikan anak-anak mereka.
Jangan risau jika ada orang lain yang akan meniru anda, anda ada ilmu dan pengalaman yang tersendiri, orang lain belum tentu mempunyai ilmu atau pengalaman yang sama.
49) Mencipta suasana yang sesuai dengan tema semasa: Ini adalah teknik yang digunakan biasanya di pusat membeli-belah. Jadikan tema semasa sebagai dekor atau cara anda berpakaian untuk melayan pelanggan. Contohnya, tahun baru cina, anda mungkin memakai baju "cheong-sam" serta memberikan hadiah limau mandarin kepada pelanggan anda. Jika bulan ramadhan, anda berikan hadiah kurma atau voucher berbuka puasa kepada pelanggan anda. Kadang-kadang anda boleh melihat kepada trend filem yang terkenal dan laris di panggung wayang dan jadikan ianya tema kepada suasana perniagaan anda. Contohnya, jika anda membuka kedai runcit dan ketika itu ditayangkan filem "Harry Porter" di panggung wayang, anda mungkin boleh hias sedikit kedai anda mengikut konsep filem tersebut dan anda mungkin boleh memakai skaf kepada seperti tukang sihir di dalam filem "Harry Porter" pada hari tertentu dan ini akan menarik ramai anak-anak yang akan "menarik" ibu-bapa mereka untuk ke kedai dan melihat anda. 48) Berikan kad diskaun atau voucher percuma: Ini adalah cara paling mudah dan murah untuk membuat pelanggan setia kepada anda. Contohnya anda mempunyai perniagaan mencuci kereta, berikan tawaran setiap 6 kali mencuci di kedai anda, mereka akan mendapat 1 kali percuma! Ini juga cara anda untuk menunjukkan yang anda menghargai mereka.

47) Perkhidmatan pelanggan yang luar biasa : Ingat, tidak ada yang lebih hebat daripada kata-kata positif daripada pelanggan. Perkhidmatan pelanggan yang hebat adalah senjata yang paling "power" di dalam menghadapi persaingan di dalam perniagaan. Jangan anggap yang disebabkan anda masih berniaga kecil-kecilan dan anda tidak perlu senyum dengan pelanggan, menjawab telefon dengan cepat sebelum 3 kali bunyi telefon, melayan pelanggan dengan mesra dan tenang. Jika anda tidak dapat lakukannya ketika perniagaan anda masih kecil, sampai bila pun perniagaan anda tidak akan menjadi besar!

46) Lancarkan pertandingan atau cabutan bertuah: Cara yang paling mudah untuk anda mendapatkan "database" pelanggan dan dapatkan maklumat pelanggan agar anda dapat gunakan maklumat tersebut untuk tawaran kempen pemasaran di masa depan. Gunakan sistem sms, blog, laman web, FACEBOOK atau siarkan di akhbar untuk memaklumkan tentang kempen anda. Anda boleh pelajari semua teknik ini dengan lebih terperinci di dalam program "Seminar Marketing Power" saya nanti.

45) Tambah maklumat baru di laman web anda: Anda sebenarnya tidak perlu bimbang tentang strategi SEO (Search Engine Optimisation) untuk meningkatkan ranking laman web anda di enjin carian seperti Google. Apa yang anda perlu lakukan adalah sentiasa menambah informasi terkini atau aktiviti terkini setiap minggu atau sekerap yang mungkin. Anda akan terperanjat melihat ranking laman web anda meningkat dalam masa yang singkat.

44) Blog: Sekiranya anda merasakan yang anda tidak mahir menulis untuk laman web, apa kata gunakan Blog. Ia adalah cara percuma dan mudah untuk anda berkongsi kepakaran anda. Blog yang bagus akan membuatkan anda popular dan mempunyai pengikut di dalam bidang kepakaran anda. Teknologi blogging yang paling banyak digunakan hari ini adalah seperti Blogger atau WordPress kerana ianya adalah percuma.

43) Maksimakan penggunaan kad perniagaan anda: Adakah anda biasa menerima kad perniagaan yang hanya menulis nama seperti "Ali bin Ahmad, pengurus, Syarikat Ali Bersaudara....?" Tetapi anda tidak tahu apakah perniagaan Ali bin Ahmad? Gunakan kad perniagaan anda untuk menyampaikan maklumat atau mesej tentang apakah jenis perniagaan anda atau apakah kepakaran anda supaya mudah untuk pelanggan merujuk kepada anda bila diperlukan nanti. Tips tambahan: Biasakan memberi 2 keping kad perniagaan apabila anda memperkenalkan diri kepada orang lain dan katakan yang anda sengaja berikan 2 kad untuk mereka berikan kepada orang lain yang mungkin perlukan perkhidmatan anda. Ini adalah cara pemasaran yang paling mudah dan berkesan kerana orang lain yang akan menolong mempromosikan perniagaan anda.

42) Maksimakan jenama (Branding) menggunakan alatulis perniagaan anda : Letakkan nama syarikat atau perniagaan anda serta kepakaran anda di atas semua kepala surat (Letter Head), sampul surat (Envelope), Kad Hari Raya, Sampul Duit Raya, T-Shirt atau uniform syarikat anda atau di alatulis seperti pen yang tertera jenama syarikat anda. Ia cara mudah untuk menyampaikan mesej kepada orang lain tentang perniagaan anda dan anda dilihat seperti syarikat "besar punya".

41) Rakamkan video anda di YouTube: Steve Job, CEO kepada syarikat gergasi Apple INC menggunakan YouTube setiap kali Apple melancarkan produk baru mereka dan ianya mendapat liputan yang paling meluas dengan kos yang paling rendah. Jangan lupa untuk link kan video anda tersebut dengan laman web anda serta kongsikan di laman sosial anda seperti FACEBOOK.

40) Melaburlah untuk mendapatkan kredibiliti daripada pihak ketiga : Sekiranya ada cara untuk anda mendapatkan akreditasi atau kelayakan professional di dalam industri yang anda ceburi, pastikan yang anda melabur untuk mendapatkannya. Ia mungkin tidak murah tetapi sebagai pelaburan jangka panjang, ia akan membantu menambah nilai perniagaan anda serta meningkatkan kelayakan kepakaran anda.

39) Mempromosi ketika pelanggan sedang menunggu atau sedang menunggu di talian: Sekiranya anda perlu meminta pelanggan menunggu atau menunggu di talian telefon sebelum ianya disambungkan kepada pihak yang berkenaan, pastikan yang mereka yang sedang menunggu diberikan bahan bacaan yang membantu mempromosikan perniagaan anda. Anda akan menarik lebih ramai orang untuk mencuba produk atau perkhidmatan anda dan biasanya mereka tidak akan meminta wang untuk dipulangkan sekiranya ianya bagus untuk mereka.
35) Berkawan dengan selebriti radio atau TV: Cari jalan untuk merapatkan diri dengan selebriti radio atau tv. Mereka adalah manusia biasa yang sukakan penghargaan. Kirimkan mereka hadiah yang luar biasa yang membuatkan mereka akan menyebut nama anda apabila mereka bersiaran.

34) Tukar mesej telefon anda : Sekiranya ada orang yang menelefon telefon pejabat atau telefon bimbit anda selepas waktu pejabat, ianya mungkin merupakan peluang anda untuk memasarkan kepada mereka. Tukar mesej panggilan telefon anda daripada "Maaf, kami sedang sibuk, sila tinggalkan pesanan anda!", tukarkan kepada "Maaf, kami amat sibuk melayan pelanggan kami sepanjang hari dan kami agak keletihan. Tinggalkan nama dan nombor telefon anda, kami pasti akan memanggil anda semula pada pukul 9.05pagi nanti!"

33) Mewujudkan sistem memperkenalkan kawan: Sekiranya pembekal atau pelanggan gembira untuk berurusan dengan anda, anda boleh memberikan mereka penghargaan contohnya voucher RM50 untuk setiap pelanggan baru yang diperkenalkan.

32) Lancarkan kempen untuk membuat sesuatu perubahan: Apakah perkara yang membuat orang ramai tidak gembira atau tidak berpuashati? Anda boleh menjadi penganjur kepada sesuatu kempen kesedaran di kawasan anda, contohnya, kempen menentang aedes. Sekiranya perniagaan anda memang secara terus dapat menyelesaikan masalah ini, ia adalah lebih baik.

31) Menawarkan perundingan atau memberikan ucapan: Cari kumpulan sasaran yang dikehendaki dan sertai mereka, tawarkan kepakaran anda dengan memberikan perundingan atau ucapan secara percuma. Ia akan mula membina anda untuk menonjol sebagai pakar dalam bidang tersebut.

30) Berpakaian menarik mengikut tema pakaian tertentu : Ia hampir sama dengan idea sebelum ini, tetapi ini adalah berpakaian mengikut tema pada hari-hari tertentu dalam seminggu. Ini akan membuatkan pelanggan tertarik dengan keceriaan kedai atau pejabat anda.

29) Berkenalan dengan hampir sesiapa sahaja: Mereka yang bijak membuat pemasaran adalah mereka yang bukan berkenalan dengan orang lain untuk menjual tetapi berkenalan untuk mengenali orang lain, ketahui apa yang mereka lakukan. Pendek cerita, berkawan dan minat untuk mengenali orang lain. Tetapi, suka atau tidak, mereka pasti akan mula bertanya tentang apa yang anda lakukan. "Terpaksalah" anda kongsikan tentang perniagaan anda.

28) Menulis Ebook percuma: Ya, tuliskan ebook atau artikel dan berikan secara percuma di laman web anda atau melalui emel. Ia akan membina kredibliti anda.

27) Menaikkan Harga : Kadang-kadang, strategi menurunkan harga bukanlah cara paling baik untuk menarik pelanggan tetapi menaikkan harga pun boleh menarik pelanggan kepada anda. Anda mungkin akan kehilangan pelanggan yang "low-end" tetapi anda akan mendapat pelanggan yang lebih tinggi kualitinya.

26) Mulakan e-newsletter: Gunakan format newsletter yang mudah untuk sentiasa "stay connected" dengan pelanggan-pelanggan atau prospek anda. Ingat, rahsia pemasaran adalah bagaimana anda sentiasa mengingatkan mereka tentang "kewujudan" anda!

25) Ubah cara bagaimana telefon anda dijawab : Berikan staf anda kebebasan untuk mencuba menjawab telefon dengan stail yang berbeza tetapi bersemangat. Sekiranya kita menjawab panggilan telefon dengan senyuman dan ceria, pelanggan anda pasti dapat merasakan keceriaan tersebut, begitulah sebaliknya.

24) Gunakan krew promosi: Anda boleh mendapatkan krew "part-time" atau sementara yang boleh membantu anda membuat promosi serta memberikan informasi perniagaan anda kepada orang ramai. Pastikan mereka memakai tshirt yang mempunyai logo perniagaan dan kempen pemasaran anda. Pastikan mereka ceria apabila menyertai kempen ini.

23) Mempromosikan produk atau perkhidmatan anda secara bersilang (Cross Promotions) : Apakah produk atau perkhidmatan lain yang pelanggan anda mungkin perlukan? Setelah mereka membeli daripada anda, biasanya mereka gembira untuk tahu apakah produk lain yang anda boleh tawarkan.

22) Menjual hadiah/ voucher penghargaan : Ramai pelanggan gemar untuk membeli hadiah atau voucher untuk dijadikan hadiah kepada orang lain. Contohnya jika anda ke kedai buku Borders, mereka ada menjual voucher hadiah di kaunter tunai mereka untuk anda hadiahkan kepada orang lain.

21) Buat sesuatu yang di luar jangkaan : Apa perasaan anda jika kedai kek ditempat anda mengirimkan SMS kepada anda dan meminta anda untuk datang ke kedainya untuk mengambil hadiah istimewa atau memberikan anda diskaun kepada anda untuk hari itu sahaja, tanpa sebarang sebab. Hanya sebagai tanda penghargaan. Pasti anda akan rasa gembira. Itulah yang anda boleh lakukan kepada pelanggan anda. 20) Mengeluarkan Press Release : Salah satu perkara yang penting untuk anda lakukan adalah untuk menghantar press release kepada media. Press release dengan kisah yang menarik akan memberikan anda pendedahan percuma di akhbar atau majalah. Ini akan meningkatkan reputasi anda serta meningkatkan jualan anda.

19) Sertai mana-mana organisasi yang boleh menyokong perniagaan anda: Libatkan diri dengan mana-mana persatuan, kelab, dewan perniagaan atau koperasi yang dapat memberikan anda kelebihan untuk mengembangkan jaringan perniagaan anda serta meningkatkan perniagaan anda.

18) Menjual apabila anda mengeluarkan inbois: Sekiranya anda berurusan dengan pelanggan korporat atau syarikat kecil dan sederhana, biasanya yang melihat dokumen inbois tersebut adalah orang penting di syarikat tersebut. Buat satu cop getah yang berbunyi "Terima kasih kerana berurusan dengan kami, semoga kami mendapat bayaran yang pantas!" dan copkan di atas inbois tersebut.

16) Kempen Mengutip Sampah : Atau kempen bersihkan rumah kebajikan serta kempen menderma untuk tabung anak yatim. Pastikan anda terlibat secara aktif di dalam kempen yang melibatkan masyarakat setempat. Pastikan juga yang anda menaja Tshirt yang mempunyai logo syarikat anda serta membuat press release untuk mengumumkan kempen tersebut.

15) Gunakan kajian kes : Sama seperti testimonial pelanggan, kajian kes akan menunjukkan anda sebagai pakar dan pengalaman pelanggan yang gembira dengan anda.

14) Menggunakan kaedah pemasaran yang menyeronokkan : Pasang spotlight di atas bangunan majlis perbandaran yang menunjukkan logo perniagaan anda atau berikan belon yang mempunyai loga perniagaan anda kepada kanak-kanak, ia adalah cara pemasaran yang mudah tetapi berkesan.

13) Menulis kepada akhbar tempatan : Akhbar tempatan biasanya memerlukan banyak berita tentang apa yang berlaku di sekeliling mereka. Biasakan membeli akhbar tempatan serta menulis kepada editor mereka mengenai mana-mana isu yang anda boleh sumbangkan cadangan atau kepakaran.

12) Fokus untuk memperbaiki staf anda : Gunakan pihak ketiga untuk menguji dan menilai staf anda bagi memastikan yang mereka sentiasa menjaga reputasi syarikat serta memberikan yang terbaik kepada pelanggan anda.

11) Lakukan sesuatu yang orang lain tidak lakukan atau tidak dapat lakukan: Analisa pesaing anda dan perhatikan apa yang pelanggan anda perlukan tetapi tiada siapa yang berikan kepada mereka. Ia mungkin agak sukar tetapi berbaloi untuk dilakukan kerana ia akan membuatkan anda unik.

10) Pergi bercuti : Sekiranya anda bekerja 18 jam sehari, 7 hari seminggu tiap-tiap minggu bertahun-tahun lamanya, anda pasti akan ketandusan tenaga dan idea baru untuk memperbaiki perniagaan dan membuat strategi pemasaran baru. Apabila anda bercuti, anda mempunyai masa untuk melihat perniagaan anda dari perspektif yang berbeza dan biasanya anda akan mendapat lebih banyak idea untuk memperbaikinya.

9) Lancarkan publisiti tergempar : Buat sesuatu yang dapat menarik media dan orang ramai kepada anda atau perniagaan anda. Kalau boleh pastikan yang ianya ada kaitan dengan jenama anda atau perniagaan anda.

8) Gunakan forum di internet : Sekiranya anda ingin menambah database pelanggan yang datang ke laman web anda, luangkan masa 1 jam seminggu untuk menjawab emel atau soalan di forum yang ada kaitan dengan anda atau perniagaan anda.

7) Tips percuma di Facebook atau mana-mana sosial media di internet : Bersedia untuk memberikan tips percuma yang membantu orang lain tentang topik atau perkara yang ada kaitan dengan kepakaran anda. Ini membina reputasi anda dan mempromosikan perniagaan anda.

5) Tingkatkan imej anda, perniagaan atau kedai anda : Pelanggan suka berurusan dengan mereka yang sentiasa nampak baru, segar, terkini dan ceria.

4) Sokong Badan Kebajikan : Tuliskan di kad perniagaan serta pejabat atau perniagaan anda yang anda menyokong badan kebajikan mana serta sediakan tabung derma untuk pelanggan anda juga dapat membantu bersama-sama anda. Pelanggan suka ahli perniagaan yang pemurah.

3) Tulis dan kongsikan profil atau kisah anda : Ya, pelanggan suka mengenali latar belakang pengasas atau pemilik sesuatu perniagaan, apatah lagi anda yang mungkin pernah gagal dan hari ini lebih berjaya. Ia memberikan inspirasi dan meningkatkan nilai diri anda. Jangan fikir yang anda belum menjadi orang yang berjaya. Anda mungkin lebih berjaya daripada ramai mereka yang gagal di luar sana.

2) Emel : Mengirimkan emel kepada pelanggan anda dan memberikan panduan, tips atau memberikan perkembangan terkini tentang produk atau perkhidmatan anda akan membuatkan mereka tertunggu-tunggu berita daripada anda.

1) Sentiasa tersenyum dan teruja : Ya, ini adalah penting kerana pelanggan suka berurusan dengan mereka yang memberikan mereka tenaga positif. Pastikan anda juga boleh buat pelanggan tersenyum dan teruja selepas berjumpa dengan anda atau berurusan dengan anda. Mereka akan ingat dan kongsikan dengan orang lain secara percuma!
